Samsung Display has revived the chief technology officer (CTO) system after about two years and moved to reorganize its technology division. It was confirmed that Vice President Lee Chang-hee, who has led the Display Research Center, was appointed to the CTO post.
According to the industry on the 1st, Samsung Display recently carried out an organizational reshuffle and created a CTO organization. Under the reorganization, the Display Research Center and the AX Research Center were placed under the CTO, reestablishing the control tower for technology development.
The Display Research Center is the core unit responsible for next-generation panel technologies and future business technologies. The AX Research Center, a revamped version of the former Production Technology Research Center, has had its role reset to strengthen research capabilities for future production facilities based on AI and automation. The AX Research Center is said to have restructured its organization to include equipment and automation research teams in addition to the DIT Center.
The industry views the overhaul as a "restructuring of the system to secure mid- to long-term technological competitiveness." Analysts say the intent is to centralize the management of academia-industry cooperation and advanced technology development, and to integrate research units that had operated separately under the CTO to boost efficiency and execution.
