Samsung Electronics is expected to keep the No. 1 spot in the global TV market in the third quarter of this year, marking its 20th straight year at the top. LG Electronics took first place in the organic light-emitting diode (OLED) TV market over the same period.
According to market research firm Omdia on the 30th, Samsung Electronics ranked No. 1 in both shipment and revenue share in the TV market in the third quarter of this year. Samsung Electronics' revenue share was 29.0%, up from 28.6% a year earlier. LG Electronics fell from 16.5% to 15.2% but kept second place. China's TCL (13.0%) and Hisense (10.9%) increased their shares and followed.
LG Electronics maintained No. 1 in the premium OLED TV market in both shipments (49.7%) and revenue (45.4%), achieving the top spot for the 13th consecutive year. Samsung Electronics recorded a 34.9% revenue share.
However, in total shipments, the combined share of TCL, Hisense and Xiaomi was 31.8%, ahead of the combined 28.5% share of Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics. Although LG Electronics ranked second in revenue share, it placed fourth in shipment share at 10.6%, behind TCL (14.3%) and Hisense (12.4%).
