Samsung Display said on the 28th that it appointed Executive Vice President Son Dong-il as head of the Large Display Business Division (hereinafter large division head) and head of the IT Business Team.
Born in 1975, Son graduated from Seoul High School and earned a Ph.D. in materials science and engineering from Seoul National University. He joined Samsung in 2004 and served as head of the YE Team at the Manufacturing Technology Center of the Large Display Business Division, among other posts. From the early days of the QD (quantum dot)-organic light-emitting diode (OLED) business, he held key development and production roles, and led the development of high-resolution, high-refresh-rate QD-OLEDs, driving growth in the monitor business.
In 2023, he was promoted to executive vice president in recognition of reaching the QD-OLED Production yield target ahead of schedule and dramatically boosting the productivity of QD-OLED lines through process improvements alone, and later served as head of development at the Large Display Business Division and head of the IT Development Team.
Meanwhile, the IT Business Team that Son will lead has established a full-fledged structure in this organizational reshuffle. The IT Business Team is focused on developing 8.6-generation IT OLEDs slated for mass production next year.
