SK Telecom and SK AX are joining hands with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to target the artificial intelligence (AI) cloud market.
SK Telecom, SK AX and AWS said on the 27th that they signed a strategic collaboration agreement (SCA) to drive innovation in AI infrastructure and services and accelerate cloud migration.
The plan is to provide differentiated services by combining SK Telecom's telecommunications and AI technology, SK AX's industry-specific AI build-and-run expertise, and AWS's global cloud infrastructure and AI service capabilities.
At the core of the agreement are building customer-tailored AI solutions and realizing a "hybrid AI cloud."
SK Telecom and SK AX plan to provide AI solutions optimized for the characteristics of various industries—such as finance, gaming, public sector and Start - Up—and for corporate customers' situations, based on their experience internalizing AWS services like Bedrock and SageMaker. They also said they will build a hybrid AI cloud that safely processes sensitive data on-premises while providing scalability consolidated to AWS's global infrastructure, thereby expanding the supply of AI services to industries where cloud adoption has been difficult due to data protection concerns.
Going forward, the three companies plan to build an "AI Cloud Hub" that spans infrastructure, services and business channels in collaboration with industry partners, including members of the K-AI Alliance, and to develop industry-specific innovation models.
Alongside this, SK Telecom will establish cloud AI security standards through its own "AI Governance Portal" and build a security evaluation model to help client companies focus on safely developing AI services, while SK AX will design and provide industry-specific AI cloud stacks to present executable models that are validated in real operating environments.
Through this collaboration, SK Telecom and SK AX plan to stably procure AWS cloud infrastructure and AI services over the next five years and strengthen their competitiveness in the MSP (managed service provider) field. The three companies also expected to introduce an AI FinOps solution to help reduce client companies' cloud total cost of ownership (TCO).
