The Ministry of Science and ICT on the 27th launched a working-level consultative group (working group) with Samsung Electronics, Hyundai Motor, SK Telecom, Naver, and Nvidia to supply 260,000 GPUs. At the launch event, they discussed implementing the Nvidia GPU introduction plan unveiled on the occasion of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Gyeongju and future strategies.
The government and corporations each drew up plans to secure GPUs. Samsung Electronics, Hyundai Motor, and SK Telecom will each secure 50,000 units, and Naver will secure 60,000 units. The cooperation aims to vitalize Korea's AI ecosystem, establish a standing cooperation framework, and operate the working group on an as-needed basis.
The Ministry of Science and ICT will strengthen communication through a working-level group led by the Director General of the AI Infrastructure Bureau and will hold high-level meetings when necessary.
Vice Minister Ryu Je-myeong of the Ministry of Science and ICT said, "Because the pace of AI innovation is fast, it is important for the government and the private sector to share experiences together," emphasizing that multifaceted efforts will be made to build an ecosystem for a leap to become an AI powerhouse.
