LG Uplus and KB Kookmin Bank have teamed up to use the artificial intelligence (AI)-based call application "ixi-O" to detect voice phishing in advance and prevent financial damage.
The two companies said on the 27th that they signed an "agreement to prevent voice phishing damage using AI technology" at KB Kookmin Bank's headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul, on the 26th. The signing ceremony was attended by LG Uplus CEO Hong Bum-Shik and KB Kookmin Bank President Lee Hwan-ju, along with key executives from both companies.
Through this agreement, LG Uplus will link voice phishing-suspected patterns detected by ixi-O with KB Kookmin Bank's abnormal transaction data to detect voice phishing attempts in real time and respond early. If actual damage is suspected, the companies are also reviewing ways to minimize the spread of damage in collaboration with the Korean National Police Agency. Earlier, in Aug., LG Uplus signed a business agreement with the Korean National Police Agency and said it would share phishing-suspected data with the agency.
Specifically, LG Uplus will share with KB Kookmin Bank voice phishing-suspected data obtained through ixi-O's real-time voice phishing detection function and analyses of whether malicious apps were installed and risky URLs were accessed. KB Kookmin Bank will connect this with its own financial protection system to monitor and, when damage is suspected, implement customer protection measures such as freezing payments from accounts.
The two companies plan to expand the scope of cooperation by forming a joint consultative body to share information on new phishing methods, build real-time response processes, and promote nationwide financial security campaigns. Customers of KB Kookmin Bank's budget phone brand "KB Liiv M" can also use the ixi-O service.
An LG Uplus official said, "Through cooperation with KB Kookmin Bank, we can identify and respond to suspected signs of voice phishing more quickly," adding, "We will continue to advance ixi-O's voice phishing detection function to create a society where people can use telecommunications services with peace of mind."
