Tmap Mobility said on the 27th it will roll out a "local hot spots" service that recommends places based on residents' driving big data.
The "local hot spots" service was developed to provide "real hot spots" verified by locals, not ad-driven information aimed at tourists. It maximized reliability by applying technology that analyzes big data on actual movements and visit patterns of users who set home or work in Tmap.
First, if you select "local hot spots in this area" on the TMAP search screen, a list recommended by locals based on the user's current location appears. If you move the map to select the desired area, you can check local hot spots in that area.
Also, when searching for hot spots, applying the "local hot spots" filter lets you see at a glance the stores people visit most often by region. If you search for hot spots or cafes along with a region name and apply the filter, you can also preview local hot spots in other regions.
Data on popular local hot spots is updated weekly to reflect the latest trends. For example, from Oct. 5 to Nov. 1, the most searched place in Sokcho, Gangwon Province, was "Cheongchosu Mulhoe Sokcho Headquarters," but the No. 1 local hot spot most visited by residents was the Chinese restaurant "Mankao." In this way, recommendations can reflect differences in taste between tourists and locals and highlight regional character.
To mark the launch, Tmap Mobility is holding a Tmap points giveaway event through Dec. 17. Click Enter on the event page and check "local hot spots" near me to participate automatically. Through a drawing, Tmap points will be awarded in tiers to a total of 4,111 people up to fifth place, including 100,000 points for first place (1 person), 50,000 points for second (10 people), and 10,000 points for third (100 people).
Jeon Chang-geun, who oversees product at Tmap Mobility, said, "By leveraging the overwhelming driving data Tmap Mobility holds, we will introduce real hot spot information proven by actual users, not ad-driven information," adding, "We plan to continue expanding differentiated local experience services based on mobility data."
