Jobis&Villains Corp., which operates Samjeomsam, said on the 25th that it acquired Microprotect, an Insurtech (insurance information technology) corporations that runs an indemnity insurance proxy-claim service. It did not disclose the acquisition price.
Microprotect is an Insurtech corporations founded in 2019, and in Mar. 2021 it launched "Returns," an indemnity insurance proxy-claim service. Returns joined last year as a Samjeomsam partner service.
With this acquisition, Jobis&Villains Corp. is entering the Insurtech market. Samjeomsam users can use tax and medical bill refund services at once within the Samjeomsam app. Going forward, they will also receive personalized insurance assessments and recommendations.
Jobis&Villains Corp. said, "We will develop the Samjeomsam app into a 'life-embedded economic platform' that anyone can access easily and familiarly," adding, "We plan to seamlessly integrate a variety of everyday economic items—such as taxes, medical bills, and insurance—that are essential in daily life but sometimes difficult or inconvenient and thus hesitated to use, and provide customer-friendly services."
Microprotect CEO Kwon Sang-min said, "After working in the insurance industry for 20 years, we can now tackle the problems we wanted to solve at a larger scale together with Samjeomsam." Korea's insurance market was about 250 trillion won last year, with unclaimed indemnity insurance benefits alone reaching 270 billion won annually. Of the 34 million indemnity policyholders, about 20 million—roughly 60%—have never filed a claim, showing significant growth potential, the two companies said.
Jobis&Villains Corp. CEO Kim Beom-seop said, "We will work to advance into a life-embedded platform that provides convenience and benefits in customers' daily lives, including medical bill and tax refunds."
