Kakao said on the 25th that its emoji service marks its 14th anniversary. Since it was first introduced in 2011, about 850,000 individual emojis have been released in total, and cumulative sends have surpassed 30 billion.
Kakao collaborated with various creators again this year to roll out new IP-based emojis and worked to broaden user accessibility. Through the "regular free emoji giveaway event" that began in Jun., 153 types of emojis were offered, and cumulative downloads exceeded 68 million. The subscription service "Emoticon Plus" held multiple trial events, with a cumulative 20 million users.
To mark the 14th anniversary, Kakao opened an event page with a birthday party concept and prepared various participatory events. It released congratulatory images drawn directly by creators of popular characters such as "Crumpled Bear," "Ganadi," "Shuya and Toya," "GO Rani," "Tosim," and "Geukrak Quokka," and is also running a "birthday cake baking game" that users can join.
If you take the cake out at exactly 14 seconds in the game, the mission succeeds; if you share the result image on social media, 10,000 people will be selected by lottery to receive a one-month free pass for "Emoticon Plus."
