Artificial intelligence (AI) lightweighting and optimization corporations Nota said on the 24th that it signed a contract with vehicle semiconductor fabless corporations Telechips for cooperation on physical AI technology.
Nota will begin work to apply lightweighting and optimization technology so that a facial recognition AI model runs efficiently on Telechips' high-performance AP (application processor) "Dolphin5."
Dolphin5 is a high-performance AP semiconductor designed for in-vehicle infotainment and ADAS (advanced driver-assistance system). As demand has recently increased for edge computing and real-time recognition, its use is expanding across diverse fields such as robots, drones, and industrial automation devices.
Nota is focusing on optimizing the facial recognition AI model to fit the Neural Processing Unit (NPU) architecture of Dolphin5, enabling fast and stable recognition even in limited computing environments. The technology is expected to serve as a core function for real-time recognition and identification of workers and users in future Dolphin5-based robot, drone, and industrial automation systems.
Based on its experience lightweighting AI models across various environments—mobile, cloud, and edge—Nota plans to use this partnership with Telechips as a springboard to expand its in-vehicle physical AI business. A Nota official said, "In industries where immediate judgment and inference are required in physical environments—such as robots, drones, and smart factories—the need for optimization technology that enables high-performance AI models to run on devices is steadily increasing."
The two companies plan to strengthen the Dolphin5-based AI ecosystem and significantly expand its scope of use beyond the automotive electronics market to the global physical AI market, including robots, drones, and industrial automation.
Nota CEO Chae Myeong-su said, "Through cooperation with Telechips, we will provide optimization technology so that high-efficiency AI models can run stably in physical AI fields such as vehicles and robots, helping customers in the robot, drone, and industrial automation markets experience tangible performance innovation."
