Microsoft (MS) and Nvidia on the 18th (local time) announced a total $15 billion (about 22 trillion won) investment in artificial intelligence (AI) Start - Up Anthropic.
According to the two companies, Nvidia will invest up to $10 billion, and MS will invest up to $5 billion, respectively. Under the investment, Anthropic agreed to purchase $30 billion worth of MS cloud computing and to adopt Nvidia's latest graphics processing unit (GPU) technology.
MS will offer Anthropic's AI model "Claude" to corporate customers using its AI services. The Claude models covered are Sonnet 4.5, Opus 4.1, and Haiku 4.5.
MS Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Satya Nadella said in an online announcement, "We will be each other's customers," and added, "We will leverage Anthropic's models, and they will use our infrastructure to go to market together."
The industry analyzed that MS, an early investor in OpenAI that has mainly used ChatGPT in its services, is reducing its reliance on OpenAI.
Gil Luria, an analyst at financial investment firm D.A. Davidson, told Reuters, "The key element of this partnership is reducing the AI economy's dependence on OpenAI," and noted, "MS has decided not to rely only on the leading model corporations, and while Nvidia has to some extent relied on OpenAI's success, it is now supporting broader demand creation."
