Bloomberg reported on the 17th (local time) that a key Apple designer who worked on developing Apple's ultra-slim phone "iPhone Air" left the company for an artificial intelligence (AI) Start - Up.
Citing multiple sources, Bloomberg said Apple industrial designer Abidur Chowdhury recently resigned. Chowdhury had been active within Apple's design team, and his departure is said to be causing internal ripples.
Chowdhury drew attention by providing narration for a two-minute video introducing the iPhone Air at the product launch event on Sept.
Chowdhury joined Apple in 2019. At that time, legendary designer Jony Ive, who had led Apple's design since the Steve Jobs era, left the company.
Chowdhury is known to have played a key role in developing the iPhone Air. The iPhone Air's design received favorable reviews, but sales appeared to be sluggish.
Bloomberg said the iPhone Air's low sales are unrelated to Chowdhury's departure. Earlier, Bloomberg reported that the successor to the iPhone Air is scheduled to launch in 2027.
Apple's design organization underwent a sweeping reorganization after Ive resigned in 2019.
Chief Operating Officer (COO) Jeff Williams, who has overseen the design organization in recent years, also reportedly left the company last week.
