WEBZEN said the subculture new title "Gate of Gates" seeks to differentiate itself from existing strategy defense games with random deck generation.
WEBZEN held a joint interview for "Gate of Gates" on the 14th at the Busan Exhibition & Convention Center (BEXCO) Exhibition Hall 1. The event was attended by Retrail game developer Head of Planning Team Park Chan-hyeok and Art Director (AD) Jeong Myeong-geun.
"Gate of Gates" is a mobile strategy defense game that brings a post-apocalyptic world to life with various "bishoujo" characters and strategic depth. In the game, humanity enters a second golden age thanks to the last energy resource, "black matter." But it is soon destroyed by "Creatures" that emerge from dimension gates called "Gates," generated by the black matter. The survivors fight back with mercenaries called "Tactical Prostheses." In this process, users form a mercenary unit with 12 "Tactical Prostheses" to face the "Creatures."
Park pointed to the random deck generation system as the game's key differentiator. The game introduces "Operation Analysis," a new growth system that combines randomly assigned squad member character stats and skills, allowing players to assemble and develop a new deck within five minutes. Park said, "I think random deck generation will be the biggest difference from other games," adding, "The goal is for users to generate decks like this and engage in diverse battle defenses."
A variety of "bishoujo" characters is also part of the game's appeal. Players can choose between 2D and 3D character models. Outfits are also dualized into combat uniforms and everyday clothes. Park said, "Tactical Prostheses are weapons specialized for tactics, but the goal is to make them look like ordinary girls through everyday clothes," adding, "We think everyday clothes will let us convey the characters' everyday stories."
Specific details on the business model (BM) and release schedule have not been announced. Head of Team Park said, "We are still in the early stages of development, so the specific BM has not been decided," but noted, "We will make it so that even without spending money, players can enjoy the game; when they clear chapters, they will be able to use items in chip form." On the release schedule, Park said, "We are consulting with WEBZEN and aiming for the earliest possible reveal," adding, "We are targeting not only Korea but also overseas subculture markets such as Japan."
