SK Telecom said on the 13th that it will carry out an organizational restructuring and executive appointments centered on a dual CIC (company-in-company) structure of "MNO (telecom)" and "AI (artificial intelligence)."
The MNO CIC will integrate related functions and capabilities with the top priority of restoring customer trust. Marketing will be reorganized around products, services, and sales to strengthen competitiveness in the telecom business, and the enterprise (B2B) business will push forward the deployment of technology support teams to the front lines to enhance competitiveness in products and solutions. The network will be organized to boost the execution of AT (AI transformation) and DT (digital transformation) in the Infra (infrastructure) domain. In particular, it will accelerate AT and DT for MNO to seek an organic linkage with existing businesses.
The AI CIC, launched on Sept. 9, will focus on generating tangible business outcomes under the leadership of co-heads Jung Seok-geun and Yu Kyung-sang. In particular, team-level units within the AI CIC will be structured as projects that can be flexibly formed and dissolved as needed, enabling agile responses to rapid market changes. The business areas will be reorganized into B2C (corporations and consumer transaction) centered on the adot business; B2B (corporations transaction) AI that drives businesses such as AI and industrial, AI, data platform, AI cloud, and physical AI; a digital platform business responsible for messaging, authentication, and payment; and AI DC overseeing the data center business, accelerating the creation of tangible AI business results. The technology domain will be reorganized around Platform, which develops platforms and services, and AI Model, which develops foundation models, to secure AI technology competitiveness and provide practical business support.
Staff organizations supporting the two CICs will be reorganized into expert groups that closely support frontline operations. The integrated security center will continue to expand its organization and headcount to lead the strengthening of security capabilities, and a Comm (communications) center will be newly established by integrating CR (external relations) and PR functions. In addition, a GC (general counsel) center will be newly established to strengthen decision-making support for key management, and the Corporate center (CFO) will integrate strategy functions into the existing CFO role.
Jung Jai-hun, CEO of SK Telecom, said, "The CIC structure is a choice to establish an optimized work style and decision-making system tailored to the characteristics of the MNO and AI businesses," adding, "Based on this, we will restore customer trust in the MNO business and generate tangible results in the AI business."
The company said, "To strengthen the practical responsibilities and roles of executives, we will streamline the size of the executive ranks while increasing the organization's overall flexibility through ad-hoc appointments in line with future business conditions and strategic direction," adding, "Within the dual CIC structure, we appointed executives based on the standard of selecting talent with both execution and expertise to seek tangible business results and the company's growth."
