Presidential Chief of Staff for Policy Kim Yong-beom met with figures from the semiconductor industry, including Samsung Electronics and SK hynix, to discuss improving industrial competitiveness.
On the 13th, the business community said Kim held a closed-door meeting with the semiconductor industry the previous day at the presidential office in Yongsan, Seoul. The meeting was reportedly attended by Samsung Electronics President Kim Yong-gwan, SK hynix President Song Hyun-jong, and DeepX CEO Kim Nok-won, among other corporate officials. It was also said that academics and consulting experts, including Seoul National University Professors Hwang Cheol-seong and Ryu Su-jeong and Boston Consulting Group (BCG) Partner Kim Chang-uk, were present.
The meeting that day was the second closed-door session following one in Oct. Industry officials reportedly said that "bold and sustained policy and fiscal support like that of the United States and Japan is necessary." In response, Deputy Minister Kim said semiconductors are the strategic industry on which the nation's fate depends and promised continued communication.
