Park Hark-kyu was appointed head of the Business Support Office at Samsung Electronics. Chung Hyun-ho, head of the Business Support TF (vice chairman) at Samsung Electronics, will step back from the front line and move to an advisory role to the chairman of Samsung Electronics. The Samsung Electronics Business Support TF will change its organizational name to the Business Support Office and will become a permanent organization.
On the 7th, Samsung Electronics announced personnel changes related to the reassignment of duties for presidents and executives in the Business Support TF. Samsung Electronics said Vice Chairman Chung was appointed to an advisory role to the chairman of Samsung Electronics, and President Park Hark-kyu was appointed head of the Business Support Office at Samsung Electronics.
Born in 1964, Park graduated from Cheongju High School and the Department of Business Administration at Seoul National University, then entered Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) to study software and received a master's degree in management science. Park joined Samsung Electronics in the accounting team, served as head of support group for the Mexico subsidiary and the VD Division, and in 2013 was promoted to executive vice president to serve as head of the support team for the Wireless Division.
In May 2014, Park moved to head the Management Diagnosis Team in the Future Strategy Office, left Samsung in Mar. 2017 when the Future Strategy Office was dismantled due to the state capture scandal, and returned in Nov. of the same year as executive vice president overseeing business operations at Samsung SDS. He then moved in Jan. 2020 to head the Management Support Office in the DS Division at Samsung Electronics and was promoted to president, served as head of the Management Support Office (CFO) in the DX Division in Dec. 2021, and in Nov. 2024 became head of the newly established Business Support Office.
Park is known within the group as a leading finance expert who has broad experience across key business areas such as semiconductors, mobile, home appliances and IT services, and is regarded as having a deep understanding of the overall business structure. Meticulous execution and risk management are also cited as strengths, and after stints in the Future Strategy Office and as CFO of the DX Division, Park is seen as a key confidant who enjoys strong trust from Chairman Lee Jae-yong.
Choi Yun-ho, head of the Management Diagnosis Office (president) at Samsung Electronics, will serve as head of strategy at the Business Support Office. Known as a finance specialist, Choi has served in the Future Strategy Office, as head of the support team for the Wireless Division, and as head of the Management Support Office (CFO) at Samsung Electronics. Starting in Dec. 2021, Choi served as CEO of Samsung SDI, and in Nov. 2024 moved to head the Management Diagnosis Office at Samsung Global Research.
Executive Vice President Joo Chang-hoon, who came through the human resources team at Samsung Electronics before joining the Business Support TF, has been reassigned as head of the Management Diagnosis Team at the Business Support Office. Executive Vice President Moon Hee-dong, formerly head of the human resources team at Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology, will move to head of the People Team at the Business Support Office.
Samsung Electronics' restructuring of the existing Business Support TF into the Business Support Office is seen as an effort to stabilize its existing role by converting a TF with a temporary character into a formal office. The revamped Business Support Office will consist of three teams—strategy, management diagnosis and people—and the Business Support TF, launched in Nov. 2017 after the dismantling of the Future Strategy Office, has become a formal organization after eight years.
A Samsung Electronics official said, "As Samsung Electronics' performance has entered a recovery phase, Vice Chairman Chung stepped back from the front line to foster the next generation," and added, "The Samsung Electronics Business Support TF has changed its name to the Business Support Office and has become a permanent organization. This is not about rebuilding a control tower."
