Despite a rise in cyber intrusion incidents, the number of workers in the information security field has shown little change.
According to the 2024 domestic information protection industry report released on the 6th by the Ministry of Science and ICT, the number of workers in the information security field responding to cyber intrusions and the like was 23,987, up just 0.2%.
The number of employees at information protection corporations was 66,367, up 10.0% from two years ago. The number of workers in the physical security field, which protects assets such as people, facilities, and information from unauthorized access, theft, and damage, was 42,380, up 16.6% from a year earlier.
There were 1,780 domestic information protection corporations, up 4.2% from a year earlier. Among them, information security corporations accounted for 876 (up 7.6%), and physical security corporations accounted for 904 (up 1.1%).
Last year, total sales in the domestic information protection industry were about 18.5945 trillion won, up 10.5% from a year earlier.
Sales in the information security field were 7.1244 trillion won (up 15.9%), and physical security was 11.4701 trillion won (up 7.3%), it was found.
The information security field showed growth in common infrastructure security solutions and endpoint security solutions institutional sector. The physical security field saw increased sales in security cameras and security equipment parts.
Last year, exports of the information protection industry were 1.8722 trillion won, up 11.4%. Exports totaled 124.2 billion won in the information security field and 1.748 trillion won in the physical security field, where exports of security equipment parts increased.
