LG Uplus is stepping up preparations for broadcasting the 2026 Milan Winter Olympics. LG Uplus said on the 5th that it was selected as the preferred bidder for the international broadcast relay service and is aiming for "flawless transmission" by combining advanced technology and know-how.
This Olympic relay will be carried out by transmitting about 20,000 km via submarine cables from Milan to the Anyang headquarters. To prevent potential interruptions in this process, LG Uplus built a three-tier system. First, it secured two main routes through quadruple-redundant submarine cables and applied hitless protection technology to enable real-time fault switching. It also uses the SRT (Secure Reliable Transport) protocol to ensure stable content delivery even when errors occur.
LG Uplus also prepared a wireless transmission system (MNG) through the mobile network to prepare for emergencies, and plans to manage all network equipment across the entire path and respond immediately through a 24/7 real-time monitoring dashboard. Based on its experience handling broadcasts for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics and the 2024 Paris Olympics, LG Uplus said it will provide flawless transmission for the Milan Winter Olympics as well.
LG Uplus plans to deploy 18 dedicated staff members and six local staff in Milan to establish a real-time collaboration system.
