LG Uplus joined hands with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to develop technology that automatically installs complex Cloud-Native network software using agentic AI that can reason and decide on its own. "Agentic AI" is AI technology that goes beyond simple responses to make decisions and take actions. Using this technology is expected to reduce software installation time by up to about 80% compared with before.
Cloud-Native network software is a kind of virtual device implemented in code so it can operate like actual network equipment in a cloud environment. The core of the newly developed technology by the two companies is having agentic AI automatically install network equipment software.
The companies used Amazon Bedrock and Strands-Agents SDK provided by AWS so that multiple AI agents can collaborate to automate the complex process of installing network equipment software. This shortened the time required for development and repetitive testing and validated various AI operation scenarios.
To apply agentic AI to the new technology, the companies pre-trained it on software design documents. As a result, without human intervention, it autonomously carries out the entire process from building cloud infrastructure to collecting, configuring, installing, and troubleshooting parameters of network equipment.
Because AI replaces the manual installation process that previously required expert engineers from each domain, total time can be significantly reduced, and errors that can occur in manual work can also be minimized.
The company said it expects the technology to also help strengthen the competitiveness of small and midsize firms. For domestic small and midsize firms in the field, it is relatively difficult to provide technical support to client companies compared with global conglomerates, but by using this new technology, the technical barrier is greatly lowered, which is expected to help discover a wider range of partners.
The companies said they expect the newly developed technology to be highly useful given that the transition to Cloud-Native infrastructure is accelerating worldwide. In fact, the global market is expanding networks on a cloud basis to realize intelligent and autonomous networks and is accelerating the shift to autonomous operations using AI.
Going forward, LG Uplus plans to lead the era of the Autonomous Network by securing a variety of AI agent–based technologies in addition to this one. An autonomous network refers to a system in which AI autonomously performs everything from installing network equipment to correcting errors.
Lee Sang-heon, head of NW Advanced Development at LG Uplus, said, "By leveraging agentic AI, the core technology of autonomous networks, we expect to enable an upgraded level of customer quality innovation," adding, "With a deep understanding of customers and strong technological capabilities, we will secure the core future network technologies most needed by customers and strive to create a bright and sustainable world."
