The 2025 League of Legends World Championship (LoL Worlds) final has been set as an all-LCK showdown. kt Rolster and T1 reached the final by defeating Gen.G and Top Esports, respectively, and will face off in Chengdu, China, on Nov. 9 (Sun.).
According to Riot Games on the 3rd, based on the quarterfinals and semifinals held at Mercedes-Benz Arena in Shanghai, China, from Oct. 28 to Nov. 2, LCK representatives kt Rolster and T1 both advanced to the final. This final marks the first all-LCK matchup in three years since DRX-T1 in 2022.
kt Rolster swept LCP (Asia-Pacific) No. 1 seed CTBC Flying Oyster 3-0 in the quarterfinals. "Cuzz" Moon Woo-chan's Wukong and "Bdd" Gwak Bo-seong's Zoe delivered back-to-back standout performances to overwhelm the opponent. In the semifinals, kt pulled off a major upset by beating Gen.G, considered a strong title favorite, 3-1. After taking a come-from-behind win at the end of a 46-minute slugfest in set 1 and dropping set 2, kt clinched victory by taking sets 3 and 4 in succession. By defeating Gen.G, No. 1 in the global power rankings, kt achieved the feat of reaching the Worlds final for the first time since launching its LoL team in 2012.
T1, which entered as the LCK's fourth seed, steadily stacked wins from the play-in stage to set a record of reaching the final for four consecutive years. Facing Anyone's Legend from China's LPL in the quarterfinals, T1 was dragged to a 2-2 tie in sets before pulling off a dramatic comeback in the decisive fifth set on the back of "Faker" Lee Sang-hyeok's Mel and "Gumayusi" Lee Min-hyeong's Ashe. In the semifinals, T1 swept another LPL powerhouse, Top Esports, 3-0. They broke a scoreless deadlock at 25 minutes in set 1 to flip the match at once, then cruised to victory in sets 2 and 3 with superior teamfighting focus. T1 maintained a perfect 5-0 record against LPL teams at this tournament and extended its best-of-five winning streak against the LPL to 13 since 2013.
The final will be held on Nov. 9 at the Dong'an Lake Sports Park Multi-purpose Gymnasium in Chengdu, China. kt Rolster is aiming for its first Worlds title since the team's founding, while T1 is targeting the first three straight championships in tournament history. As the first LCK civil war in three years and a final pitting a changing of the guard against a traditional powerhouse, the matchup is drawing intense attention from LoL fans worldwide.
