Global security company Palo Alto Networks said on the 3rd that it launched a new artificial intelligence (AI) agent–based security automation platform, Cortex AgentiX.
It is a solution that uses AI agents to automatically handle security tasks, and it is an upgraded version of the existing security automation platform, Cortex XSOAR.
Cortex AgentiX lets AI agents automatically handle security tasks to speed up defense against and response to cyberattacks. Palo Alto said, "Although corporations are rapidly increasing their use of AI to boost productivity, complex system integration and a lack of control remain major challenges," adding, "Cortex AgentiX is designed to address these issues by enabling the safe introduction of AI agents across security operations."
Threat actors such as hackers are carrying out cyberattacks up to 100 times faster than before. Prebuilt AI agents in Cortex AgentiX assess situations, reason, and act like experts, cutting mean time to respond (MTTR) by up to 98% and manual work by up to 75%, allowing security analysts to focus on strategic tasks instead of repetitive chores, the company said.
Unlike existing stand-alone automation solutions, Cortex AgentiX is an end-to-end autonomous platform that integrates the entire security operations process into one. It was developed based on Palo Alto Networks' security automation experience accumulated over the past 10 years and execution data from more than 1.2 billion real playbooks. Through more than about 1,000 preintegrations and native support for the model context protocol (MCP), it maximized interoperability with a wide range of security tools within corporations.
Gonen Fink, senior vice president for Cortex products at Palo Alto Networks, said, "Uncontrolled AI agents can create new security risks," adding, "To solve this problem, Palo Alto Networks built Cortex AgentiX within the proven Cortex platform with robust controls, traceability, and authorization management. The newly launched Cortex AgentiX is not mere automation but the end of manual work in the SOC and a fundamental transformation of security operations."
