KT said on the 2nd it signed a multilateral memorandum of understanding (MOU) for joint research and development and global expansion of AI-RAN technologies and services with NVIDIA, Samsung Electronics, SK Telecom, LG Uplus, ETRI, and Yonsei University.
AI-RAN (Artificial Intelligence Radio Access Network) is a next-generation network technology that analyzes traffic data exchanged between base stations and network servers in real time to provide an optimal network environment.
KT joined the AI-RAN Alliance in Jan. and began full-fledged research and development activities on AI-native network technology. In Sep., it proposed the technology for "user-customized mobility and connection stabilization," which it is co-developing with Samsung Electronics, as a new research item to Working Group 1 of the AI-RAN Alliance (a working group that studies technologies that directly improve RAN performance and efficiency through AI), and related work is underway.
KT plans to present its research and development achievements and proof-of-concept results at the AI-RAN Alliance plenary meeting to be held in early Nov. in Boston, United States.
KT also completed verification in Aug., the first in Korea, applying AI-RAN technology to a commercial 5G network to improve customer-perceived speed quality.
In addition, through the SCFA (Strategic Cooperation Framework Agreement), Asia's largest strategic council of telecom operators, it continues research cooperation with global partners in various ways, including strengthening collaboration in the AI-native network field with NTT Docomo and China Mobile.
