"Developing artificial intelligence (AI) requires responsible innovation. AI must bring benefits to everyone and have a positive impact on the next generation. Since 2015, Google has been working to strengthen AI expertise for more than 60 million people in the Asia-Pacific region. We are integrating learning platforms and courses to help people build essential capabilities."
At the "2025 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Summit" held on the 29th at Hwarang Hall of the Gyeongju Arts Center, Simon Kahn, Google Asia-Pacific chief marketing officer (CMO), spoke as a speaker for the 14th session, "Next-generation AI roadmap for sustainable innovation," and said this.
Kahn, the CMO, said, "Today we are in the midst of the third technological revolution," adding, "The first was the internet, the second was mobile, and now it is AI." He went on, "AI is a massive inflection point that can bring meaningful and positive change to everyone and society," and said, "To achieve this, we must be bold in innovation, act with responsibility in the process, and build the future together."
Kahn, the CMO, explained that Google is working for the public good, including in medicine and public safety, by using AI. He said, "Google's 'AlphaFold' has shortened the once time-consuming work of mapping proteins, and has analyzed more than 200 million maps to date," and introduced that "by releasing this as open source, we are accelerating innovation in the medical field." He continued, "Google provides a flood forecasting system for a population of more than 2 billion," and said, "More than 1.3 million people die in traffic accidents every year, and to build safer roads, Alphabet's Waymo is leading fully Autonomous Driving technology."
Kahn, the CMO, argued that in AI innovation, the responsibility and sustainability of corporations must not be neglected. He said, "This week Google launched a new education platform called 'Google Skills,'" and added, "We brought together about 3,000 learning contents offered by Google Cloud, Google Research, and others in one place so that anyone can learn the capabilities needed for AI."
He went on, "AI is a technology that consumes energy, but at the same time it is a tool that opens a cleaner energy future," and revealed, "Google's latest 'Tensor' processors have achieved 30 times higher power efficiency compared with 2018, and we reduced AI training-related carbon emissions by 44% over the past year."
Lastly, Kahn, the CMO, called for cooperation among global corporations, emphasizing, "No corporation can realize the potential of AI alone, and innovation depends on collaboration." He said, "In Korea, we are conducting AI-based medical research with LG, and Samsung is providing core memory for AI Semiconductor," and explained, "With SK Telecom and LG Uplus, we are developing AI customer service systems."
