KT announced a compensation plan for victims of unauthorized small payments and a personal information leak.
KT said on the 29th that it sent guidance messages to affected customers and will provide 100 gigabytes (GB) of free data for five months while supporting the equivalent of 150,000 won in either communications fees or device replacement expense.
First, KT will provide free data equivalent to 100 GB for five months to affected customers whose small payments and information leaks have been confirmed.
In addition, affected customers can receive a discount equivalent to 150,000 won on communications fees, or, if they want to replace their device, they can get a discount on the device purchase amount.
The communications fee discount will be deducted from the monthly mobile phone bill. The device replacement discount is applied as an additional discount to the contracted discount amount when changing to a new device purchased from KT.
KT plans to send additional text guidance next week to customers eligible for compensation.
KT said it will convert about 2,000 stores nationwide into "safe and secure specialist stores" to restore customer trust and prevent similar breaches from recurring.
It will also provide the "KT Safe and Secure Insurance," which compensates for telecom-related financial fraud losses, to affected customers for three years.
The company added that it will implement specific measures to strengthen security, including addressing hacking issues.
Earlier, KT decided to fully reimburse small payment losses and waive early termination fees for affected customers who want to switch carriers.
