HANCOM LIFECARE, a defense and safety equipment specialist under Hancom Group, said on the 29th it will join the Army's "brigade-level Korea Combat Training Center (KCTC) upgrade" project as a core technology partner.
The project, a core defense digital transformation initiative worth a total of 48.6 billion won under a contract between the Defense Acquisition Program Administration and lead contractor ITCEN NTech, assigns HANCOM LIFECARE to a major institutional sector worth 6.42 billion won for 24 months from the contract date.
HANCOM LIFECARE will develop, manufacture, and supply a total of 30 key pieces of equipment, including a MILES wear detector for the K-5 gas mask and a K242 mortar simulator. In particular, to "advance the intelligent training data analysis system," the company plans to apply artificial intelligence (AI) technology to some equipment to strengthen training efficiency and safety at the same time.
Notably, by applying vision AI to the K242 mortar simulator, the company improved the accuracy of firing data measurement and enabled data-driven training that closely mirrors real battlefield conditions. This is expected to precisely assess trainees' real-world response capabilities and significantly improve the reliability of training data.
HANCOM LIFECARE has built unmatched development and mass-production experience in urban-area and mechanized unit training equipment and reserve force engagement training systems, and aims to secure a competitive edge for the follow-up KCTC advancement project through this initiative. The company also plans to establish a bridgehead for entering overseas scientific training system markets based on AI-driven sensor and data analysis technologies.
Chief Executive Kim Sun-young of HANCOM LIFECARE said, "KCTC is a core project of 'smart defense' that maximizes our military's combat power," adding, "HANCOM LIFECARE will go beyond simple equipment supply to establish itself as a key partner leading defense AI technology and secure future growth drivers."
