As Samsung Electronics began rolling out the new software "One UI 8" for Galaxy S smartphones, tablets, and watches starting last month, users at home and abroad who updated are reporting inconvenience. They say One UI 8 has few differences from the previous version, "One UI 7," and that the battery drains quickly.
On the 28th, posts criticizing "One UI 8" appeared on an online community with 1.22 million Samsung Electronics product users. One user who said they use the Galaxy S24 asked, "Is there no solution for the battery draining fast after the update?" Another user said, "There are almost no changes compared with the previous version, and only the battery drains quickly."
A user who said they use Samsung Electronics' wearable "Galaxy Watch 7" also wrote, "After the update, I leave home with a 100% charge and return to find about 20% left. Previously, about 70% to 80% remained. Can't I downgrade (roll back to the previous version)?"
Samsung Electronics said the update provides advanced multimodal (recognizing both visual and audio data) features, a UX (user experience) optimized for various devices, and personalized functions. It is rolling out the software sequentially from the latest S25 series to the Galaxy A33 5G.
On Reddit, the largest online community in the English-speaking world, evaluations also said battery life decreased after the "One UI 8" update. A user with the ID "wicktor090" said, "I regret the One UI 8 update. When I used One UI 7, the Galaxy S25's screen-on time (SOT) was about 7 hours, but now it's only 5 hours."
On Samsung Members, the community operated by Samsung Electronics, similar criticism continued that battery life decreased after the One UI 8 update. On the 25th, one user wrote, "Is (Samsung Electronics) failing to recognize the fast battery drain issue, or does it simply have no intention of fixing it?"
Samsung Electronics responded to such opinions in a comment, saying, "Battery consumption is affected by multiple factors, such as updates to installed apps, changes in device usage environments, or usage patterns," and asked that details be provided if an error occurs.
