The Ministry of Science and ICT said it will hold the AI Frontier International Symposium 2025 on the 27th at Yongsan Dragon City in Seoul to share the latest research achievements in artificial intelligence (AI) and explore international cooperation.

The ministry said the symposium will serve as a venue for international joint research exchange, where leading domestic and international AI scholars and researchers affiliated with the National AI Research Hub, which brings together Korea's national AI research capabilities, and the Global AI Frontier Lab, a global cooperation hub, will gather. Participants will share key research achievements and discuss future research directions, AI's future vision, and safety and trust.

Part 1 of the symposium will feature keynote speeches by world-renowned scholars who will look at the present and future of AI research. Professor Yann LeCun will deliver a keynote on "World model learning," and Professor Choi Ye-jin will deliver a keynote on "Democratization of Generative AI: Beyond scaling laws."

After the keynote speeches, an AI scholars' roundtable will be held, chaired by Bae Kyung-hoon, with Professor LeCun, Professor Choi, Professor Cho Kyung-hyun, and Professor Kim Ki-eung participating. The roundtable will broadly discuss AI governance, the present and future of AI technology, and the social impact of AI technology.

Part 2 of the symposium will feature a session sharing the outcomes of joint research pursued by the National AI Research Hub and the Global AI Frontier Lab and directions for in-depth research. In the National AI Research Hub session, overseas researchers visiting from Japan, France, and the UAE (United Arab Emirates) and domestic researchers will share diverse research achievements under the themes of next-generation foundational AI research and physical AI for real-world autonomy.

In the Global AI Frontier Lab session, institutions including NYU and Yonsei University will present research results on new core AI algorithms and trustworthy AI. It will also introduce the latest research trends in advanced AI applications in healthcare and Robotics.

On the 28th and 29th, a Global AI Frontier Lab workshop will be held to share the status of research between Korean and U.S. researchers and to explore future research directions on core AI algorithms, AI trust and accountability, and AI healthcare.

Bae Kyung-hoon said, "This symposium will be an important opportunity for world-class AI scholars and domestic researchers to gather in one place, for South Korea's AI research to leap to a world-class level, and to pioneer a new frontier in AI technology."

Bae added, "The ministry will continue to further strengthen the international competitiveness of domestic AI research and accelerate the establishment of a global AI research cooperation ecosystem."
