It was confirmed on the 26th that Kakao recently carried out artificial intelligence (AI) summary and emoji updates on KakaoTalk.
First, if you turn on the AI summary feature through the update, Kanana (Kakao AI service) will summarize the messages piled up in the Unread folder and provide only the key points. The summary target is one chat room that has at least five unread messages and has received messages within 24 hours.
The summary criteria are guided to users via a tooltip, and they will be advanced by continuously evaluating user reactions and usefulness. If users can change the summary criteria, the changes will also be reflected in the tooltip wording.
Kakao also carried out changes to Open Chat community conversations and the emoji tab in this update. In the Open Chat tab, when you search for a keyword, you can find community conversations with the information you want.
With the emoji tab overhaul, the default emojis were moved to a mini tab, and emojis can now be found in the search tab. The 116 default emojis were renewed into 126 mini emojis, and the update also includes making them available in the mini tab.
Kakao also announced in this update that it will include ChatGPT in KakaoTalk next week. While notifying users of revisions to the privacy policy due to the launch of KakaoTalk "ChatGPT for Kakao," it said the changes will take effect on the 28th.
Accordingly, users will be able to press "ChatGPT" at the top of KakaoTalk to use the chatbot service. Without installing a separate ChatGPT app, users will be able to use the OpenAI GPT-5 model and tap a speech bubble during a KakaoTalk conversation to ask ChatGPT questions.
Meanwhile, although this update is the first carried out after last month's major KakaoTalk overhaul, users' interest still remains focused on restoring the Friends tab. Kakao maintains that a technical rollback to a lower version is impossible, but said it will proceed as scheduled to fully restore the Friends tab within the fourth quarter, as users are requesting.
