NCSOFT is pushing a plan to change its corporate name to "NC." NCSOFT has kept its name since its founding in Mar. 1997, but is reportedly reviewing the change to strengthen consistency with overseas branches and subsidiaries.
On the 26th, a NCSOFT official said, "We are reviewing procedures for a name change." The industry sees a name change by NCSOFT as likely, noting that efforts to unify the brand under "NC" have been underway since 2020.
In Jan. 2020, NCSOFT unveiled a new corporate image (CI) that removed "soft" from the logo and emphasized NC. At the time, NC explained that, as part of a brand renewal, it updated the CI to the current version to create unified branding across branches, subsidiaries, and affiliates.
In practice, overseas branches use names based on "NC," including the professional baseball team "NC Dinos" (NCDinos) and the AI-focused subsidiary spun off earlier this year, "NC AI" (NCAI).
