Anthropic, a global AI research and development corporations that developed the artificial intelligence (AI) model "Claude," said on the 24th it will open a Korea office in Seoul's Gangnam in early 2026. Korea will become Anthropic's third major base in the Asia-Pacific region after India and Japan.
Through this entry into Korea, Anthropic plans to hire local talent, strengthen cooperation with domestic Start - Up and large corporations, and actively participate in building Korea's AI innovation ecosystem. Key company executives will visit Korea next week to meet domestic client corporations and partner corporations to discuss ways to cooperate to achieve Korea's goal of becoming one of the "top three AI powers."
Dario Amodei, Anthropic CEO, said, "Korea is leading AI innovation in Asia, and Claude is already being used widely," and added, "In Korea, which has a world-class technology ecosystem, we will work with partner corporations to realize AI's limitless potential."
According to Anthropic's data, Korea is one of the countries that use Claude most actively in the world, ranking in the top five in both total usage and per-capita metrics. In addition, monthly active users (MAU) of the AI coding assistant "Claude Code" increased sixfold over the past four months, and it found that Korean developers use Claude Code the most in the world.
With the opening of this office, Anthropic plans to build a Korea market–tailored organization. It has already appointed a head to oversee cooperation with the domestic Start - Up ecosystem and will hire additional personnel, including a Korea country manager.
The "Claude for Startups" program, which is being run to support Korea's Start - Up and corporations ecosystem, is also receiving a strong response domestically. For example, legal tech Start - Up Law&Company used Claude to improve legal workflows, boosting work efficiency by 1.7 times.
Examples of cooperation with major domestic corporations are also continuing. SK Telecom has worked with Anthropic to develop a multilingual AI customer service model for more than 10 million customers.
Paul Smith, Anthropic chief commercial officer (CCO), said, "Korean corporations already have world-class AI utilization capabilities in advanced coding and enterprise application fields," and added, "Through the Korea office, we will expand support tailored to the diverse needs of corporations and Start - Up."
Anthropic currently has more than 300,000 corporate corporations worldwide, and about 80% of consumer Claude usage occurs outside the United States. Korean users can access Claude in various environments such as the Anthropic API, Amazon Bedrock, and Google Cloud Vertex AI.
With the opening of the Korea office, Anthropic plans to strengthen cooperation with the domestic AI community, policymakers, and government agencies, contributing to Korea's goal of becoming a global AI leader.
