Naver Map said on the 23rd that it has officially launched an "indoor Augmented Reality (AR) navigation" service.
The indoor AR navigation service accurately recognizes a user's location and direction with just a smartphone camera, even where GPS signals do not reach, and guides the way in AR.
When you scan the surroundings with the camera, the directions to the destination are intuitively displayed over the real-world space. Even in complex indoor areas like large multiuse facilities, users can move easily without wandering.
With this update, Naver Map also improved the indoor amenities user interface (UI). As users explore amenities such as restaurants, cafes, elevators, restrooms, and information desks, they are expected to find their destinations easily through AR directions.
Indoor AR navigation can first be experienced at COEX in Gangnam District, Seoul. The company plans to sequentially expand the service to facilities focused on complex spaces with heavy foot traffic.
Naver Map also unveiled a "Flying View 3D" service that lets users explore major landmarks nationwide.
When you load Flying View 3D, you can also experience videos implemented with Naver Labs' Novel View Synthesis (NVS) technology. NVS is a 3D vision technology that constructs three-dimensional space through image learning and generates videos as if shot from multiple angles.
By combining high-resolution aerial images shot by drones with Street View 3D images captured using Naver Labs' in-house developed mapping device P1, users can view three-dimensionally rendered landmarks from various angles.
Flying View 3D is available around 10 attractions, including Cheomseongdae in Gyeongju, COEX in Seoul, Songdo Central Park in Incheon, Jeonju Hanok Village in North Jeolla, and the Busan Exhibition & Convention Center (BEXCO) in Busan.
