A memorial service marking the fifth anniversary of the death of former Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Kun-hee is scheduled to be solemnly held on the morning of the 24th at the family burial site in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province.
The memorial service is expected to be attended by Hong Ra-hee, honorary director of Leeum, Samsung Museum of Art; Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong; Hotel Shilla President Lee Boo-jin; Samsung C&T President Lee Seo-hyun; and Samsung Global Research President Kim Jae-yeol. About 150 former and current executives, including Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Jun Young-hyun, Samsung C&T President Oh Se-chul, and Samsung Life Insurance President Hong Won-hak, also visited the burial site.
After the memorial, Chairman Lee Jae-yong and presidents of affiliates are to have lunch together at the Samsung Human Resources Development Center in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, in remembrance of former Chairman Lee Kun-hee.
On the occasion of the fifth anniversary of former Chairman Lee Kun-hee, the value of the "KH legacy" left by the deceased is also being reexamined. The bereaved family, including Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong, honored the deceased's wishes and gave back to society in 2021 through art donations and medical contributions.
To advance Korea's art world, the family donated more than 23,000 cultural assets and artworks collected over a lifetime by the former chairman to national institutions, and contributed 1 trillion won in medical philanthropy, including 700 billion won to overcome infectious diseases and 300 billion won to support pediatric cancer and rare diseases. Contrary to expectations that they would sell off a significant portion of the inherited assets to raise more than 12 trillion won in inheritance taxes, the family returned them to society.
