The three telecom companies have moved to support networks ahead of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit set for the end of this month.
SK Telecom said on the 22nd that it completed 5G and LTE quality inspections at major APEC event venues and lodging facilities, as well as roaming quality checks for foreign participants.
SK Telecom will additionally deploy Wi-Fi equipment, mobile base stations, and personnel at venues and will operate a situation room during the event.
KT said it will launch a companywide response to secure a stable communications environment across its wireline and wireless networks.
The company formed a Gyeongju APEC response task force (TF) to build a communications support system and plans to deploy about 100 personnel from headquarters and partner companies to focus on communications quality control and incident response.
It will also expand 182 units of 5G and LTE base station equipment at 43 locations, including HICO, the main event venue in Gyeongju, and surrounding areas, and will deploy six broadcast vehicles and 11 technical staff on-site to support stable broadcast transmission.
LG Uplus additionally installed 5G and LTE equipment in key areas. In particular, it focused on expanding capacity at major accommodations expected to be visited by delegations, such as Cheomseongdae, the Commodore Hotel, and Hanwha Resort, to ensure smooth use of communications services such as data and voice.
At the media center prepared as the APEC press conference venue, temporary communications equipment was set up to prevent coverage shadows. In addition, extra Wi-Fi access points (AP) were installed around Hwangnyongwon, where the APEC chief executive officer (CEO) Summit CEO family dinner will be held.
LG Uplus plans to monitor facilities 24 hours a day and operate a local situation room for emergency response in case of contingencies. It also plans to deploy a mobile base station near the Gyeongju HICO, the main APEC venue.
In addition, mobile base stations will be deployed at Yeongildae in Pohang, where the APEC commemorative fireworks show will be held, and near Yeongilman Port, where a lodging cruise ship is docked, and temporary communications facilities will be operated at some sites to create a stable network environment.
