Nexon said on the 20th that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the National Institute of the Korean Language to develop and promote Korean-language learning content based on the free block-coding platform HelloMaple.
Reflecting recent trends in Korean usage, such as low literacy and increased use of foreign words, the agreement was pursued to create an environment where children and teenagers can naturally improve their Korean skills through games. The two institutions plan to carry out various collaborative projects to jointly develop game-based learning content and spread proper language culture.
Nexon and the National Institute of the Korean Language previously launched their first collaboration in September by introducing new content, Run! Korean sprint, on HelloMaple. Nexon developed an educational game for elementary and middle school students, and the National Institute of the Korean Language handled refining foreign words and reviewing quiz items.
In addition, the two institutions jointly operated a collaboration booth on the 18th at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism-led 2025 Hangeul Hanmadang's Korean dictation contest. On site, they set up an experience zone for Run! Korean sprint so visitors could solve problems themselves, and offered HelloMaple souvenirs to visitors on a first-come, first-served basis.
Nexon is also running a Proper Korean usage campaign, offering prizes to users who leave polite and clean comments on the new HelloMaple content through the 26th.
Shin Min-seok, Nexon's general director, said, "This collaboration is meaningful in that it allows children to learn proper Korean expressions easily and with fun," and added, "We will continue to expand educational content that combines learning and play."
An official at the National Institute of the Korean Language said, "We hope this will serve as an opportunity for teenagers to naturally learn the value of Korean in the digital environment," and added, "We will continue to spread proper language culture through cooperation with Nexon."
