Kakao Mobility said on the 19th it will support comprehensive transportation services to help ensure the successful hosting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit to be held in Gyeongju at the end of Oct.
Kakao Mobility, an official sponsor of the 2025 APEC summit, said on the 19th it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on Oct. 15 with the APEC preparation support team to provide transportation services. Accordingly, from Oct. 26 to Nov. 1, the period of the event, it will operate a total of 12 free 44-seat circulator shuttle buses around the Bomun Tourist Complex in Gyeongju.
The shuttle buses will run every 30 minutes from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on two circular routes, "Jegongwon 2nd route" and "Expo Park east route." Passengers can ride at no additional charge, and Kakao Mobility will cover all related expense, including vehicle lending fees and drivers' lodging expense. The company also plans to operate a safety management system to prepare for emergencies that may occur during the event.
In addition, Kakao Mobility will provide real-time traffic information via Kakao Navi during the event, including the citywide voluntary odd-even driving scheme in Gyeongju, advance congestion alerts, and detour guidance. To ease traffic congestion around major venues in the Bomun Tourist Complex area, it will also provide parking locations and some temporary detour information for city bus routes through the Kakao Bus app.
It will also run a campaign promoting proper taxi practices for foreign tourists. It will instruct Kakao T taxi drivers not to engage in "meter nonuse," "arbitrary fare charging," or "ride refusal," and will work to encourage courteous service.
Kakao Mobility previously contributed to the success of the APEC Senior Officials' Meeting (SOM3) held in Songdo, Incheon, in July and August by operating free shuttle buses.
