Samsung Electronics will hold its largest in-house technology event, "Samsung Tech Expo," to share the direction of next-generation technology innovation. The 12-layer sixth-generation high bandwidth memory (HBM4), cited as a key to next year's semiconductor rebound, will also be unveiled here for the first time.
According to the industry on Oct. 19, Samsung will host the 2025 Samsung Tech Expo under the slogan "REBOOT: DESIGNING WHAT'S NEXT" from Oct. 27–31 at Samsung Semicon Sporex in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province. Because the latest technologies and unreleased products will be on display, the event will be closed to outsiders, and only employees with advance reservations may attend.
This year's event is organized around three themes: ▲ artificial intelligence (AI) agents ▲ sustainability ▲ computing & network. Samsung has significantly expanded its future technology exhibits and set up an experience zone so employees can try out advanced technologies firsthand. Affiliates including Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology, Samsung Electronics DX (device experience) and DS (device solutions) institutional sector, Samsung Display, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, Samsung SDI, Samsung Biologics and Epios, Samsung Engineering, and Samsung Heavy Industries will take part in full force.
In particular, the DS institutional sector will unveil for the first time the HBM4 12-layer product ahead of mass production within the year. Samsung Electronics lost the top spot in global market share in the HBM market in the second quarter to a rival, but it has recently moved to supply HBM3E to Nvidia, creating an opportunity for a rebound. Market research firm Counterpoint Research projected that Samsung's HBM market share will expand from 17% this year to 30% next year.
Samsung also plans to reveal a 200-megapixel image sensor and AI technologies specialized for semiconductors. The DX institutional sector will showcase a 115-inch micro RGB TV, and Samsung Research will present a vision for innovation across the Galaxy ecosystem through on-device AI agents.
Since 2001, Samsung has held the Tech Expo annually to consolidate groupwide R&D capabilities, and research and development spending reached a record high in the first half of this year at 18 trillion won. Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong has repeatedly emphasized technology-centered management, saying, "Technology first, technology second, technology third."
