Global audio and music streaming platform Spotify said on the 17th that it has expanded the "Exclude from your taste profile" feature down to individual tracks. The move is meant to strengthen its personalized music recommendation features.
Spotify's personalized music recommendations are based on a user's "taste profile." Spotify analyzes the music a user listens to and their listening habits to provide personalized track recommendations and taste summary content such as "Discover Weekly," "Daylist," "Blend," and "Wrapped."
Going forward, users can directly exclude specific tracks from their taste profiles. A Spotify official said, "Until now, only listening history at the playlist level could be excluded, but now fine‑grained taste management is possible at the individual track level."
For example, if a user frequently listens to music not directly related to their personal tastes, such as children's songs listened to with their child, excluding those tracks from the taste profile will prevent them from affecting recommendations or taste summary results.
The feature is available on the Spotify mobile app, desktop app, and web player. Click the "..." icon at the top of a track you don't want reflected in your taste profile and press the "Exclude track from my taste profile" button. Select "Include track in my taste profile" from the same menu to have it reflected in the taste profile again at any time.
