An error occurred in the short-form (short video) tab unveiled after Kakao carried out an update to its KakaoTalk messenger last month, and it was restored within an hour.
According to a KakaoTalk short-form outage report submitted by the Ministry of Science and ICT to Rep. Hwang Jeong-a of the Science. ICT. Broadcasting. and Communications Committee of the National Assembly (Democratic Party of Korea) on the 17th, a disruption occurred in KakaoTalk short-form delivery starting around 3:54 p.m. that day. While watching short-form videos, a message said, "consolidation is not smooth."
Kakao explained the cause to the Ministry of Science and ICT, saying, "A temporary error occurred in the service operations system, briefly causing a suspension of related short-form services."
It is unclear whether Kakao complied with the rule that requires reporting a disruption to the authorities within 10 minutes from the time it is recognized if the service disruption lasts more than 30 minutes. However, according to Hwang's office, the time the disruption occurred was confirmed to be earlier than the estimated time Kakao reported to the authorities. Hwang said, "Isn't it that in rushing to build a slapdash service, they are failing to meet even the basics?"
Kakao said, "Among some users, there was a temporary issue where access to the short-form tab was not smooth; after identifying the cause, we carried out an emergency task and fully restored service after 5:05 p.m."
