It has emerged that SK Telecom notified members of the AI CIC (company-in-company), which it established to drive artificial intelligence (AI) innovation, of a "special retirement program."
According to the telecommunications industry on the 14th, SK Telecom recently notified employees belonging to the AI CIC that it is beginning organizational capability integration and function streamlining.
SK Telecom said that, in this process, job transfers and changes in work organizations could occur, and proposed that members may apply for special retirement. It was found that special retirement benefits and the like vary by individual depending on years of service and job grade.
Earlier, on Feb. 25, SK Telecom announced the launch of the AI CIC through a town hall meeting led by CEO Ryu Young-sang. The company had said it would concentrate companywide AI capabilities within the CIC to accelerate the great AI transition.
An SK Telecom official said, "This is to assign some personnel to organizations other than the AI CIC to streamline overlapping tasks and roles," adding, "We are running the special retirement program to ensure that a person's job and career can be protected."
