"X-Men," "Stranger Things," and other content that has gained popularity worldwide as films or drama series will be made into webtoons.
Webtoon Entertainment, the headquarters unit of Naver Webtoon, said on the 15th it will produce five titles representing The Walt Disney Company's intellectual property (IP)—"Astonishing X-Men," "The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl," "Stitch and the Samurai," "Darth Vader – Black, White & Red," and "Star Wars: Lost Stars"—as vertical-format webtoons. Webtoon Entertainment recently unveiled its next lineup of famous works being newly adapted into webtoons at the 2025 New York Comic Con (NYCC) held in New York.
The webtoons being produced this time are scheduled to be released in the Disney section of "WEBTOON," Naver Webtoon's English-language service.
In addition, through a collaboration with U.S. leading comic publisher Dark Horse Comics, "Stranger Things: The Other Side" will also be made into an English-language webtoon. "Stranger Things: The Other Side" is a comic based on Netflix's popular original series of the same name and focuses on the story experienced by the main character in the original series, Will Byers. The release date will be announced later.
A graphic novel based on the hit game "Plants vs. Zombies" is also set to debut on Nov. 1.
Webtoon Entertainment has recently been expanding the webtoon base by partnering with well-known North American intellectual property (IP) corporations.
Previously, it joined hands with IDW Publishing, which holds the IP for "Godzilla," "Sonic the Hedgehog," and "Under the Tree Where No One Sees," and more recently agreed to collaborate with Boom! Studios, an imprint (separate brand) of Penguin Random House that published "Something Is Killing the Children."
