Smilegate said on the 10th that it has signed a licensing agreement to adapt Kodansha's popular manga "Dead Account" into a game. Under the deal, Smilegate will handle global publishing (distribution) for the new title now in development, "Dead Account: Two Blue Flames."
"Dead Account: Two Blue Flames" is a team roguelite game that combines character collection and growth elements, and development is being handled by IAAN Games, which includes developers behind "Seven Knights." It is currently being developed as a cross-platform title for mobile and STOVE (PC), and key content and information will be released sequentially going forward.
The original manga "Dead Account" is by Watanabe Shizumu, known for "Real Account" and "A Trick for the Witch," and began serialization in 2023. The story follows the protagonist Enishiro Soji, who transfers to "Miden Academy" and struggles alongside his companions to defeat ghosts resurrected as digitalized social media (SNS) accounts of the dead. The work is also scheduled to air as an animated series every Saturday at 11:30 p.m. starting in January next year on "IMAnimation," part of TV Asahi's nationwide network of 24 affiliates.
Oh Byung-jin, Smilegate's head of business, said, "We expect the game adaptation of Dead Account will go beyond a simple intellectual property (IP) expansion to deliver a new experience to both fans of the original and gamers."
Furukawa Shin, Director General at Kodansha, said, "We hope this game adaptation project will draw out the original's appeal."
