LG Electronics said on the 2nd that it has released a new model of the modular dwellings "LG Smart Cottage."
The newly released models total two: an 8-pyeong (27㎡) open single-story model and a 16-pyeong (54㎡) separated single-story model. With this, it now has a lineup of six models, including single-story and two-story types and 8-, 14-, and 16-pyeong types. Through the 18th of next month, visitors can experience the new 16-pyeong model and receive consultations for purchasing the LG Smart Cottage at "Open Songhyeon Green Plaza" in Jongno-gu, Seoul.
In particular, the biggest feature of the new model is its affordable price. The 8-pyeong model is priced at 1 billion won, about half of the previous level.
LG Electronics redesigned the dwellings to achieve this. It flattened the roof, which had previously been raised for daylighting, and standardized the basic modules that make up the dwellings so they can be connected like blocks. The 8-pyeong model assembles three modules, and the 16-pyeong model assembles six modules. This not only reduces construction costs but also facilitates expansion into various forms, such as two-story models, to meet customer needs.
The interior layout also focuses on essential appliances needed for daily life. The new model comes with four LG Electronics AI appliances—air conditioner, refrigerator, washing machine, and induction cooktop—as well as four IoT devices, including a boiler, smart switches, and a door lock.
After launching the LG Smart Cottage last year, LG Electronics supplied it to business-to-business (B2B) customers such as corporate training centers and campgrounds, and since June this year it has also been running open house tours to expand business-to-consumer (B2C) sales.
The appliances, HVAC system, and IoT devices installed in the LG Smart Cottage can be conveniently controlled using the LG ThinQ app. In addition, because more than 70% of components—such as the module structure, windows and doors, wiring, bathroom, and kitchen fixtures—are prefabricated and shipped in a pre-fab manner, the construction period can be shortened by up to more than 50% compared with the conventional reinforced-concrete method.
Lee Hyangeun, head of HS CX at LG Electronics, said, "With the LG Smart Cottage lineup tailored to customer lifestyles, we will spread a second-house culture that allows more customers to relax comfortably and enjoy life as if in their own home."
