With the launch of its extended reality (XR) device "Muhan" at the end of this month, Samsung Electronics is making a full-fledged entry into the XR device market.
According to the industry on the 2nd, Samsung Electronics plans to officially launch the new XR device on the 22nd (Korea time). It is known that pre-purchase notification sign-ups will be accepted from the 15th to the 21st, a week before the launch date.
Samsung Electronics' XR device has so far been called "Project Muhan." It is the first Android XR device developed in collaboration with Google and Qualcomm.
The weight and detailed specifications of "Muhan" have not yet been disclosed. However, Roh Tae-Moon, acting head (president) of the Device eXperience (DX) division at Samsung Electronics, has emphasized as strengths of Project Muhan that "the weight and wearing comfort are good, and voice control can deliver a refined user experience."
As for price, it is expected to be cheaper than Apple's Vision Pro. Apple's Vision Pro 1, released last year, was priced at "$3,500 (4.87 million won)" and weighed as much as 600g. In the end, Vision Pro recorded a 2% share of the global virtual reality (VR) market in the fourth quarter of last year, as the market turned its back.
