LG Innotek said on the 1st that it hosted the optical research and development (R&D) talent invitation event "OPTECHCON" at its manufacturing subsidiary in Haiphong, Vietnam (the Vietnam subsidiary).
"OPTECHCON" is an optical R&D talent invitation event that LG Innotek has held every year since 2023. LG Innotek said it planned the event to secure top talent in advance who can contribute to advancing optical technology and preemptive development of new technologies.
This is the first time the "OPTECHCON" event has been held at an overseas subsidiary. A LG Innotek official said, "By actively employing outstanding R&D talent in Vietnam, we decided to hold this event locally in Vietnam to further strengthen the capabilities of the optical solutions business following the completion of the new plant in Vietnam."
About 80 science and engineering students and faculty members from major universities in central and northern Vietnam, including Vietnam National University (VNU), Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST), Da Nang University, and Hue University, took part in the event.
LG Innotek executives, including Chief Technology Officer Noh Seung-won (CTO) and Chief Human Resources Officer Lee Dong-hoon (CHO), also visited Vietnam in person to introduce the company's unrivaled optical solutions technological competitiveness, vision, and organizational culture.
A session was also arranged to communicate with invited talent by sharing projects led by local engineers working at the Vietnam subsidiary and their success stories.
Meanwhile, LG Innotek recently completed an expansion of its V3 new plant in Haiphong, Vietnam, with a total floor area of 150,000 square meters (㎡, about 45,000 pyeong), and has begun full-scale operations. With the completion of the V3 new plant, the Vietnam subsidiary's production capacity has more than doubled.
LG Innotek is pursuing a dual production base strategy to internalize all processes from optical product development to manufacturing not only in Korea but also in Vietnam. Through this, the company plans to accelerate strengthening cost competitiveness in the optical solutions business.
CHO Lee Dong-hoon said, "Starting with Vietnam, we plan to expand customized local hiring programs at other overseas subsidiaries," adding, "Through various hiring innovation efforts to secure top talent who will drive future growth, we will strengthen LG Innotek's global competitiveness."
