Kakao Entertainment said on the 1st it will offer its artificial intelligence (AI) Shorts production technology "Helix Shorts" to creators for free.
Kakao Entertainment said it has been providing the webtoon AI Shorts production technology Helix Shorts to CP companies since 29th. The distributed service name is "Helix Shorts AI Agent." After signing up for Kakao Entertainment's "Partner Site," it was distributed to CP companies that distribute KakaoPage original intellectual property (IP), and the company plans to gradually expand the distribution scope going forward.
When a CP company uploads the webtoon episode to be made into Shorts to the "Helix Shorts AI Agent," the AI conducts in-depth image analysis, and Shorts production then proceeds according to the steps proposed by the AI. After obtaining the author's consent, the produced Shorts video can be posted on KakaoPage through platform consultation or used to promote the work independently through other channels such as the CP company's website and YouTube.
Helix Shorts is an AI technology that automatically creates short videos of around 40 seconds highlighting webtoons. After identifying the potential for automating short-form content in 2023, Kakao Entertainment began development and in February completed applying Helix Shorts for all KakaoPage users. Unlike other video automation technologies, Helix Shorts precisely understands the images and mood in a work and organically combines the plot, narration, background music, and layout.
In particular, the decision to provide creators with the foundation to produce Helix Shorts is expected to consistently contribute to expanding the creative ecosystem by driving creators' opportunities to promote webtoons and broaden their readership. Helping intuitive immersion, Helix Shorts is materially boosting view-through rates and lowering entry barriers for unfamiliar works and genres, extending the IP lifecycle. Unlike the roughly three weeks it used to take to produce a single Shorts video, the approximately two-hour production time is also a unique strength of Helix Shorts.
Kim Gi-beom, Kakao Entertainment's CTO, said, "With 'Helix Shorts,' which presented the industry with a new kind of IP immersion experience, being offered to creators, we hope the foundation of the domestic webtoon industry will expand and be revitalized once again," and added, "We will continue to research and develop AI technologies that support the sustainable growth of the domestic creative ecosystem."
