As the upward trend in DRAM memory prices continued for six straight months, the price of standard DRAM products has topped $6.
According to market research firm DRAMeXchange on the 30th, the average fixed transaction price for PC DRAM standard products (DDR4 8Gb 1Gx8) in September rose 10.53% from the previous month to $6.3. It is the first time in 6 years and 8 months that the price of this product has exceeded $6.
The fixed transaction price refers to the bulk price determined through periodic negotiations between memory companies and demand-side corporations. It is regarded as a barometer of the memory market.
The price of this product has been on a six-month streak of gains since jumping 22.22% on 4th. It rose 46.15% last month.
As demand for server DDR5 used in data centers and elsewhere has increased, major memory companies have reduced supply of the older DDR4 products, which has led to higher prices, according to analysis.
The average fixed transaction price in September for standard NAND flash products for memory cards and USBs (128Gb 16Gx8 MLC) also rose 10.58% from the prior month. NAND has been on a rising streak for nine consecutive months.
Rising demand in fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), telecommunications, and automotive electronics is seen as driving up NAND prices.
