LG Electronics said on the 29th that the Building Energy Management System (BEMS), the non-hardware segment of its HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) business, has received official recognition for outcomes such as energy savings and improved efficiency.

The Pulmuone Technology Institute in Osong, North Chungcheong Province, where LG Electronics' BEMS is installed, earned the top grade in installation verification from the Korea Energy Agency (KEA) in 2021 and recently received approval to extend the validity period of the installation verification. It is the first case of an extension approval since the system was introduced.

BEMS is a system that monitors energy usage in real time and provides functions such as control, management, and prediction of various facilities to maintain a comfortable indoor environment and manage energy efficiently in buildings.

LG Electronics' BEMS contributed to an average annual energy saving of 8.4% at the Pulmuone Technology Institute over a three-year evaluation period. The Pulmuone Technology Institute improved building energy operations with support from LG Electronics to meet the Korea Energy Agency (KEA)'s management standards.

When the Pulmuone Technology Institute was completed, LG Electronics supplied an integrated HVAC system and installed high-efficiency heat source equipment, including a thermal storage system for cooling and a geothermal heat pump for heating. Through BEMS, it collects real-time data from various facilities and manages automatic control and peak loads. BEMS is also designed to minimize energy use by sensing nine environmental factors—indoor and outdoor temperature and humidity, CO2, illuminance, and fine dust—via sensors.

LG Electronics expected that this extension approval will strengthen product competitiveness in the BEMS market and help boost customers' operational efficiency. The company said it will proactively respond to steadily growing BEMS demand and drive revenue growth in areas beyond hardware.

In line with its business portfolio strategy for qualitative growth, LG Electronics aims to increase the revenue share of non-hardware segments—currently around 10% of the ES Business Division's total sales—to 20%.

Vice President Lee Jae-sung, head of LG Electronics' ES Business Division, said, "We will further strengthen our integrated solutions business that goes beyond product-centered solutions to integrate and control various facilities, achieving both operational optimization and energy savings, thereby enhancing the competitiveness of our HVAC business."
