Yoon Soo-young, LG Display CTO (chief technology officer), will receive the Silver Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit at the commemorative ceremony for the "16th Display Day," held on the 26th at Lotte Hotel World in Jamsil, Seoul.
After commercializing the world's first large-size OLED, Yoon was recognized for contributing to the advancement of Korea's display industry by developing next-generation display technologies such as micro LED for signage and a freely deformable stretchable display.
After joining LG.Philips LCD (now LG Display) in 2002, Yoon has worked in the display industry for 24 years, striving to secure technological competitiveness.
Since 2020, Yoon has served as CTO, overseeing R&D overall and leading the establishment of future technology strategies and advanced technology research. Based on this, Yoon plays a key role in LG Display's sustainable growth and the development of Korea's display industry.
Meanwhile, Ryu Hae-cheol, Head of Team of the IP Filing Team, and Lee Seung-hwan, Head of Team of the Packaging Technology Team, will receive the "Commissioner of the Korean Intellectual Property Office Commendation" and the "Korea Display Industry Association Chairman's Award," respectively.
Head of Team Ryu has led the building of an intellectual property portfolio for core technologies such as touch-on-encapsulation (ToE) OLED. As a result, Ryu was selected as a recipient of the "Commissioner of the Korean Intellectual Property Office Commendation" in recognition of contributions to strengthening patent competitiveness in Korea's display industry.
Head of Team Lee, who received the Chairman's Award, was recognized for achievements in developing eco-friendly technologies for a sustainable future. Last year, Lee succeeded in developing and applying eco-friendly packaging for electronic components using recycled plastic as a raw material, achieving a tangible reduction in carbon emissions.
Meanwhile, the "Display Day" ceremony hosted by the Korea Display Industry Association is an annual event held since 2010 to commemorate Oct. 2006, when Korea's display panel exports surpassed $10 billion annually. Awards are also presented to contributors who have helped expand domestic sales and exports through the localization of materials, parts, and equipment, or who have elevated the stature of the display industry through technological innovation.
