Samsung Electronics said on the 23rd that it will join the global consortium "Verizon 6G Innovation Forum" to lead the future of 6G (sixth-generation mobile communication) technology with global big-tech corporations.
Led by U.S. carrier Verizon, the consortium brings together major corporations in information technology (IT) and telecommunications technology, including Samsung Electronics, Meta, Ericsson, Nokia, and Qualcomm.
The participating corporations will collaborate to build and commercialize the 6G ecosystem, including new use cases, devices, and network technology design. To that end, they plan to conduct discovery of new spectrum bands and bandwidth tests, strengthen cooperation with global standardization bodies, and carry out prototype development and field tests through the establishment of 6G research labs.
Samsung Electronics will conduct research for the 6G era by using wireless communication technologies that apply AI to discover new user experiences and develop related communication technologies.
Jeong Jin-guk, vice president and head of the Next Generation Communication Research Center at Samsung Research, Samsung Electronics, said, "We will work closely with global big-tech companies to validate AI and communication network technologies that will lead future wireless and accelerate the 6G era that delivers innovative user experiences."
