LOTTE Innovate said on the 22nd that it will unveil Korea's first Jeju tourism-type autonomous-route bus service, "Ilchulbong Go (Go)!," in partnership with the Jeju Provincial Government.
The partnership was pursued to enhance experiences at tourist sites in the Jeju region. The "Ilchulbong Go" service will run for three months starting on the 22nd. The operating route, designed with tourist flow in mind, is a 9.3-kilometer round-trip loop from Seongsan Ilchulbong, one of Jeju's signature landmarks, through Gwangchigi Beach and circling Seopjikoji. In particular, the service will deploy an autonomous shuttle that secured a 40 km/h operating permit as a Type B autonomous vehicle (a driver's-seat-free autonomous shuttle) in Oct. last year for the first time in Korea, to provide safer and faster transportation.
Tourists can use the service for free during the operating period by making a reservation in advance. To use it, scan the QR code attached to stops or promotional materials within the operating section with a mobile camera, access the site, and reserve the stops for boarding and disembarking.
LOTTE Innovate said it will continue to upgrade the service so tourists can experience attractions more conveniently. It also said it plans to gradually expand the scope of autonomous driving services by adding regular routes to other major tourist destinations.
